Box 1

Blue Tit box in the Ash Tree to the right inside the gate at the Holly Guest Road entrance

Used - possibly by Great Tits

8th March 2008: Used by Blue Tits - Replaced

19/5/08: Used by Great Tits - chicks fledged

Box 2

Blue Tit box in the third Lime Tree on the left inside the gate at the Holly Guest Road entrance

Used - possibly by Great Tits

8th March 2008: Used as a store - Replaced

19/5/08: Unused

Box 3

Blue Tit box in the Hawthorn in the middle of the field below the log seat

Used - Blue Tits

 

8th March 2008: Box OK - cleaned out

19/5/08: Unused

 

Box 4

Robin box in the Hawthorn next to the one above

Used by Bank Voles for storage of Hawthorn seeds for winter food - they had drilled them and removed the kernels to eat 19/5/08: Unused

Box 5

In the Alder below the dogs' drinking pool

Used - Great Tits

8th March 2008: Found on the ground - Replaced

19/5/08: Unused

Box 6

In a Cherry Tree near the Oak Tree pond

Repaired

8th March 2008: Used by Blue Tits - there was an unhatched egg in the nest

Replaced

19/5/08: Unused

Box 7

In another Cherry Tree near the Oak Tree pond

Used - Blue Tits

8th March 2008: Unused but still in good condition

19/5/08: Unused

Box 8

In the Ash Tree in the left hand hedge as you walk down from the log seat, and opposite the Cherry Trees

In the Orchard to the left as you walk up the path

In a Damson Tree in the Orchard to the right as you walk up the path

Used - possibly by a Wren

In the Hawthorns near the apple store by a Tydemans Early Worcester Apple Tree

Used - Blue Tits

8th March 2008: Unused

19/5/08: Partial nest built

6 June 2008: Partial Blue Tit nest built

Box 12

In an Apple Tree

Used - Blue Tits (unused in 2005)

8th March 2008: Unused - Replaced

6 June 2008: Partial Great Tit nest built

Box 13

In the Hawthorns by the grafted Apple Trees

Used - Blue Tits

8th March 2008: Unused

6 June 2008: 6 Great Tit eggs

Box 14

In a large Hawthorn in the Orchard across from No 9

Had been occupied and there was still a Great Tit's egg in it

8th March 2008: Probably not used in 2007

Old nest, probably from later in 2006, removed

6 June 2008: Partial Great Tit nest built

Owl box

On the Great Oak Tree by the pond

Packed solid with oak leaves, grass and twigs - no owl but used as a squirrel's drey

In the Holly Guest hedge of Cherry Plum Trees

Used - Great Tit or Blue Tit  

Box 16

In the Holly Guest hedge of Cherry Plum Trees (in line with Miss Harris's seat)

Replaced with a Tit box 19/5/08: Unused

In the Holly Guest hedge of Cherry Plum Trees

Unused 19/5/08: Unused

In the Holly Guest hedge of Cherry Plum Trees

Contained a small amount of nesting material - an unsuccessful nest  

Box 19

In a Maple Tree in the bottom copse

Taken from the hedge for repair - contained a beetle nest. Replaced but sited in the copse as 17 and 18 in the hedge hadn't been used 19/5/08: Unused

Box 20

In one of the other Maples in the bottom copse

New box 19/5/08: Unused

Box 21

Bottom of the path at the entrance to the Steps Wood

New box

In a Hawthorn to the far left of the path in the Steps Wood - close to the edge of the wood

Previously used by Blue Tits but the entrance hole had been enlarged to about 10cm over the past year by a Woodpecker

In a Hawthorn just up from Box 22

In Oak Tree on left of the path in the Steps Wood going back towards the hill overlooking Oak Tree pond

Hole enlarged (possibly by a Squirrel or Green Woodpecker) - unused. Box replaced.

In a Field Maple off a side path to the left of the main step path after the first set of steps

Used - Great Tits

 

19/5/08: Used by Blue Tits - chicks fledged

In a Hawthorn on the right hand side down from the second set of steps

Tree Creeper box 1

n/a 19/5/08: 14 dead chicks - possibly Blue Tits. Tapered shape of box probably unsuitable for them
  Tree Creeper box 2 n/a 19/5/08: Occupied by Great Tits - chicks fledged
  Tree Creeper box 2 n/a 19/5/08: Partially built nest abandoned
