The Forest of Avon Sculpture Project
The Forest of Avon Sculpture Project was instigated by Chris Weedon,
Local Projects Manager, under their own project name - Beyond
the Ring Road Marker Project.
The Forest of Avon have been working with the ‘Old School’
youth centre and Warmley Girl Guides in South Gloucestershire
to create two large carved markers using a fallen oak tree from
Overscourt Wood (which is about 3 miles from the Ridge as the
crow flies).
These are now complete and have been transported and installed
on their respective sites at Cock Road Ridge and Overscourt Wood.
The story goes that each sculpture can be seen by the sister sculpture,
given a pair of binoculars. We're checking that one out*!
Chris
Weedon, the sculpturer, Usef, and a crew from the South Glos Street
Care team were on hand to install the sculpture on Cock Road Ridge
along with our chairman, Bob.
There is a site marker on the top surface which points out distant
viewpoints such as Siston Court, Overscourt Wood, Warmley Church,
Freezing Hill, Lansdown, Warmley Museum Tower, Pucklechurch etc.
The Ridge sculpture features a number of animals that can be
seen on the Ridge as well as connections with local history. We'll
let you spot those yourself but you can see a number of them on
the photograph below. Don't forget to let us know via the forum
what you think of the sculpture.

Our Chairman, Bob Seddon confirms that this is the case:
"The other evening I walked down to the sculpture with
binoculars to see if I could see the other one at Overscourt Wood.
The answer is yes, a very good line of sight, trees are not in
the way."
So that's great news and a great feat. Why not take a stroll
down and see for yourself? Let us know what you see in the forum.
