Ridge Workday 5th July 2005
Only four of us make it through to this round....
Well we certainly can't complain about the weather on the last
few workdays including this one. It's another glorious day but
perhaps just a little too hot to be swinging slashers around clearing
undergrowth.
Ah well, we choose the Community Area Pond to start off our day,
it being a cool area and all that. That darned duckweed
had made it's way back and completely covered the water surface
again.
However, it was clear the pond had made progress since our last
clearing. There was evidence of much more wildlife and that spurred
us on. In the picture you can see Elisabeth and Mike 'roping'
the duckweed to the side where Maureen collected and disposed
of it. Using this technique meant we were able to avoid wading
in and disturbing the pond.
We all moved further up the Community Area after this as we wanted
next to find, and clear an area around a plinth that was supposed
to be somewhere near one of the main paths.
The plinth was meant to be for a mosaic that had been created
by local children. This project had been delayed and it's incredible
how quickly the undergrowth has covered it over as seen opposite
- no sign of it at all!
The err, fantastic four, soon got down to work with slashers,
cutters and pruners to hack away at the growth. An hour or so
later and there lay the plinth suitably exposed.
Having exhausted ourselves, Mike and Maureen invited Elisabeth
and Lee back to theirs for cocktails in the garden. See what you
keep missing!
